FACING FORMATIONS

Being an 'Old Fart' we have seen many formations from old A-Right Single Wing formations of the 50s to the Spread No Back 5-Wide call it at the line of scrimmage people dink around with now. What's a body to do. Sometimes U can see it all in just one game. That's a lot to get ready for.

Therefore, here's what we did. We used to be a 5-2 Monster Defense which was a great base defense to start with against 2 Back offenses. We evolved to a 4-3 Defense because it was easier to adjust out of it than any other. When folks went to that 5 wide, spread offense by DB Coach wanted to have a 3-deep secondary which meant were were going to have to go to a 3-man line. With my 5-2 background it was difficult for me to go to a 3-man line. But we did. Successfully.

We were successfully because we kept things simple: DBs always knew they had deep third. DEs always knew they were to rush the QB from the outside in keeping the QB in the pocket. The NG & the MLBer, kept things under control up the middle. The OLBers knew they had the flats & we had a monster back that would do what we had for him to do that week.

We could play just about all our secondary coverages from that beginning set: 3-5-3. If U go to the Football Faxuals Faceboook page, I have uploaded our basic stuff that would STUFF what their OCs were trying to do with formations.

Good Luck!
